Found object art

The Allens Lane project had a dividing wall between the kitchen and dining room. Instead of leaving the wall painted and hanging shelves or art on it, we decided to build in a piece of installation art on the kitchen side. The palette for the kitchen and dining room was bright red, yellow and blue. We were interested in incorporating a repurposed material that would compliment this palette. A mobile constructed out of found bread tabs made by an architect friend, Paul, inspired me. Paul has collected thousands of bread tabs that have all been given to him by friends and students.

Using panels of clear plexi glass Paul designed the layout of the bread tabs and glued them directly to the plexi. He then put four pieces of the plexi glass together. This gave the wall depth and three dimensionality. There is a tab with the birth date of each member of the Cohen family.
