Repurposed fireplace mantle

During the time we were working on the Tasker Street row home in South Philadelphia we were also exploring ways to repurpose architectural salvage pieces as functional and decorative pieces for a home. We found an ornate doorframe at Restore, the highly curated architectural salvage store in the Frankford area of Philadelphia. The door pediment, which had been salvaged from a rectory, was a beautifully carved piece that created the visual anchor of this living room. We were also able to salvage marble slabs for the hearth.
The walls in this room are painted an amazing aubergine color that was made in my parents’ historic milk paint factory, Heritage Village Colors, which operated until 2005 in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia.
